I rewatched Day of the Dove recently, which is a good episode (if one ignores the. highly unfortunate blackface on the klingons.), and I'm sure there are many things to be said about it, but for the moment, my only comment is: Chekov is, according to canon, an only child???
I had forgotten this. In fic, it's... fairly? common to give him a Big Family (though I do think sometimes it's "many cousins" as opposed to "many siblings", perhaps to keep canon) but the idea of Chekov with Many Many Siblings had definitely incorporated itself into my mind.
But where did many-sibling'd Chekov come from?? Is it an AOS thing? Did people look at him and say "yeah he looks like he's good with kids, let's give him siblings!"? Did one person write it and then the fandom just ran with it? Is having large families just a prevalent Russian stereotype? I sure don't know!
#actually i really like the scene where kirk (and then bones and kang etc) laugh the alien out of the ship. i may clip it later.#and it felt like kirk and spock spent a great deal of time calming each other down in it which is always great fun#plus the ever-famous “this is my wife and science officer” scene of course#also it gave sulu funny weapons again!!! that man deserves a sword <3#tos#star trek#day of the dove#pavel chekov#chekov#tos chekov
